COLOURFUL WESTERN ANDALUSIA (SPAIN)
All included photo trip to the colourful Western Andalusia
The unknown west of Andalusia offers different and very varied landscapes and has a great attraction due to its special appearances. The huge colour contrasts are spectacular. Unprecedented rock landscapes, pristine coasts and beaches, vast lush subtropical forests with interesting flora and fauna and a river with all kinds of details and colours with unlimited photographic opportunities. This and the extensive geological and archaeological heritage are the ingredients of this photo trip. During this trip, everything is taken care of. This allows you to fully focus on the purpose of this trip, which is to be busy with photography. The lodging is based on breakfast, lunch and dinner. The excursions are provided by experts in the field of photography. Transport has also been taken care of. This concept ensures that photography can be central during this special photo journey.
The photo trip to colourful Andalusia focuses on the west and middle of this area that lies in southern Spain. It is a place with beautiful varied landscapes such as one of Europe’s best preserved primeval forests with its surprisingly humid microclimate for southern Spain, in which moss and ferns grow high in the trees and where we can photograph the only native European rhododendron among the many cork oaks. We also go to the beautiful pristine flysch beaches, the rock maze of el Torcal de Antequera as well as several photogenic waterfalls. A photographic highlight of the trip is the surprisingly colourful River Río Tinto with its «Mars landscapes», a true paradise not only for the classic landscape photographer but also for those who want to take special pictures of details.
The trip aims to take the participants to the most interesting places of these landscapes, at the most spectacular and photogenic moments. For some photo locations we have to take a short walk to get there. We also plan an evening during the week to view and discuss the pictures taken by the participants. Besides that it is nice to also see the pictures of the fellow photographers, it is also very educational and inspiring.
The trip is organized together with the Dutch agency Fotoreisspecialist (www.fotoreisspecialist.nl), specialized in photographic travel with extensive experience in photographing and organizing trips to this destination. During the trip we will hold some theoretical photography workshops and analyse the images of the participants made during the trip.
The journey includes transport during the trip, an accompanying professional photographer and a guide, accommodation in full board (breakfast, picnic and dinner with three courses), in a room with private bathroom.
Peter Manschot is an experienced professional photographer and guide, has been living for more than 20 years in Andalusia and published 6 photo books about this region. A selection of his work can be found at www.petermanschot.com
Day 1. After arriving at Málaga airport we leave for our comfortable hotel, located in a beautiful natural setting with a wide variety of landscapes close by. Depending on the arrival time, we can do a sunset session at the flysch beaches today.
Day 2 and 3. Subtropical primeval forests and flysch beaches
We leave for the subtropical primeval forests of the south west of the Iberian Peninsula. We visit waterfalls with photogenic lakes, surrounded by lush subtropical vegetation, huge ferns, beautiful wild rhododendrons that are in full bloom in May, many tree and plant species including carnivorous plants. To get to the photo locations in the woods we sometimes have to take a short walk. Some paths are a bit steep and can be slippery. Good walking shoes are required here. The advantage of these locations is that hardly anyone comes here and we can photograph in peace.
During these days we also visit the flysch beaches. Here we have a view of the coast of Morocco. This location lends itself very well to, among other things, detailed photography of the many beautiful stones and rock walls present. In the evening it is a beautiful place for photographing the sunset. We also have a photo location close to where the tree frogs come out in the evening. Only for the impressive sound they produce it is already an experience to take a look at them.
Day 4 to 6. The unique landscape of Río Tinto
In the coming days we will visit the «Mars landscape» of Río Tinto (Spanish for coloured river). This very special river is quite unique in the world and partly located in a mining area. Its special characteristics have brought even NASA investigators, since the extreme conditions of the water seem to be similar to that of other planets. The various photo locations along the river are surrounded by many colourful details and are an ideal area to play with colours and shapes and expand your portfolio with original, not everyday photos.
Day 7. The limestone rock labyrinth
Today, the fairy-tale Torcal de Antequera with its impressive rock towers and stone labyrinths is on the program. In this unique environment there are great possibilities for taking pictures of flora, fauna and landscapes. Here we try to photograph the last sunset of the trip.
Day 8. Return
After an inspiring week full of photographic experiences, we drive back to Málaga airport after breakfast. We start the journey homewards full of impressions, loaded with photos, new photo knowledge and skills.
This journey is suitable for any photographic level.
Although it is not indispensable, we recommend having basic knowledge of photography and a DSLR camera to get more out of the workshops.
To get to the photographic locations some itineraries go along unpaved roads or mountain tracks. Therefore we recommend that the participants are used to (short) walking in the natural environment.
